Overview
Seasons don’t come much worse than Salford’s 2025 campaign, and that’s entirely down to the Red Devils’ disastrous ownership group.
The coaches and staff can emerge with their heads held high, and the players deserve enormous credit for not folding when it would have been entirely understandable if they’d walked away.
Month after month they were paid late, and yet they continued to turn up and give it their all in the face of adversity. Incredibly, 70 players represented the Red Devils across the course of the season, and they somehow managed to come out of it with three wins, which was as many as London Broncos and Hull FC managed in 2024.
Highs
The three wins against Warrington, Castleford and Huddersfield are the obvious places to start, but every time Salford took to the field it was a win, as there were serious doubts as to whether they’d make it through the year.
Lows
Where to start? The 82-0 loss at St. Helens in the opening round was a sign of things to come, but I’m not sure anyone anticipated how bad things would get.
There’s no point going through individual games, as there were a lot of understandable hammerings.
Unsurprisngly, the Red Devils won’t be in Super League next year, which is a real shame for a club that’s reached a Grand Final and a Challenge Cup Final since 2019.
2025 RLB Player of the Year – All of them
Everyone who put a Salford shirt on and represented them in 2025 deserves a huge pat on the back. It would be easy to look at some of the players on loan from other clubs and think they’re just getting some minutes under their belt and aren’t affected by the crisis at the club, but they’d have known they were like lambs to the slaughter when they signed up.
Special mention too, to the players who stayed at the club throughout the whole campaign and saw it through.
Reasons to be positive in 2026
The only way is up for the Red Devils. As it stands, I’m not sure what league they’ll be in or how the future looks for them, but as long as they have their incredible fans behind them, there’ll be someone to cheer on every weekend.
My 2025 prediction – 9th
Final 2025 position – 12th (-3)
This one went out of the window in week one, but how was anyone to know what a catastrophic mess the club would become.
