Super League Grand Final 2026 – preview, predictions and tips
Warrington Wolves vs Wakefield Trinity – Saturday 3rd October – Old Trafford, Manchester
Did anyone predict this at the start of the year? Even a month ago, this match looked far fetched, but full credit to both these sides for stepping up when it counted.
History will be made either way this weekend, with both sides aiming for their first ever Super League title. For Warrington, it’ll be a first championship since 1955, and for Wakefield it’ll be a first since 1968, so it’s been a long time coming for both teams.
This promises to be an absolute cracker, so let’s dive straight in…
*All odds are taken from Paddy Power and correct at time of writing on 3rd October 2026.
How they got here
Warrington Wolves
Warrington didn’t even make the play-offs in 2025, so it’s been a fantastic turnaround to finish 3rd in 2026. Their record across the regular season was 20-7, and in week one of the play-offs, they dismantled reigning champions Hull KR in a 35-12 victory.
That meant a semi-final at Leeds last weekend, when a Ewan Irwin penalty proved the difference in a 14-12 win at Headingley. This will be the Wire’s first Grand Final since 2018.
Wakefield Trinity
Wakefield’s rise has been remarkable in recent years. They were only promoted back into Super League in 2025, and their 6th-placed finish was a massive acheivement in itself.
Fast forward 12 months, and they finished 4th with a 19-8 record. In week one of the play-offs they beat Leigh Leopards 26-16, but last weekend’s performance at Wigan will go down as one of the best ever in Super League, by any team. Their 33-6 win over a Warriors side who’d won 16 in a row, meant a first ever Super League Grand Final for Trinity.
Head to head
It’s 1-1 this year between the two sides.
Warrington won 27-16 in their first meeting way back in February, before Wakefield evened things up with a 25-18 win in the penultimate week of the regular season.
Team news
Just one change for Warrington Wolves, with Jordy Crowther replacing Max Wood in their squad.
Wakefield have named an unchanged 21-man squad from last weekend’s win at Wigan.
My prediction – Warrington Wolves 12-16 Wakefield Trinity
I’m struggling to split these two, but based on last week’s performances I make Wakefield favourites. If they can play like they did against Wigan, no team in Super League can live with them. The Wire only just sneaked past an injury-hit Leeds, but I’m expecting them to step it up this weekend. I’m still leaning towards Trinity though.
Betting tips
Warrington are slight favourites, so I’m backing Wakefield to win at 1/1. There are some good prices on anytime tryscorers too, so I’m backing Tom Johnstone to score, at 7/4.
