Super League Grand Final 2025 – preview, predictions and tips

Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors – Saturday 11th October – Old Trafford, Manchester

Let’s be honest, this is the final we all hoped for really isn’t it? Of course, everyone has their own club allegiances and want to see their own side running out at Old Trafford, but if they can’t and you had to pick the two most deserving teams, it would surely be these two.

Hull KR and Wigan Warriors have been the standout sides in Super League this year, with the pair of them claiming the top two spots during the regular season.

For the Robins, victory on Saturday will complete a historic treble after their Challenge Cup and League Leader’s Shield successes, while Wigan are looking to secure a third-straight Super League title after victories in 2023 and 2024.

It should be a cracker of a match, so let’s dive in and take a look at what to expect…

How they got here

Hull KR

The Robins had an outstanding 2025, and their record of 22-5 during the regular season was enough to claim top spot and the League Leaders’ Shield.

As well as silverware, it also meant a week off during the first weekend of the play-offs and a guaranteed home game in week two.

A 20-12 victory over St. Helens last weekend with two tries from Oliver Gildart, plus one each from Joe Burgess and Man of Steel nominee Mikey Lewis, got the job done for the Robins, as they secured their spot at Old Trafford for a second-straight year.

Wigan Warriors

The Warriors claimed 2nd spot at the end of the regular season, finishing just two points behind KR, thanks to a 21-6 record.

That also meant a week off and a guaranteed home tie, which came in a ‘Battle of the Borough’ against Leigh leopards last Friday. An 18-6 victory for Wigan with two tries from Bevan French and one from Sam Walters, was enough to secure their spot at Old Trafford for a third-straight year.

Head-to-head

These two have fast become major rivals over the past couple of years thanks to their titanic top-of-the-table tussles.

Wigan won the first meeting of the sides in 2025, with a 12-28 away victory back in Round 7.

However, Hull KR returned the favour in Round 22, when their 6-10 away win saw them take a decisive step towards the League Leaders’ Shield.

And don’t forget, these two met in last year’s Grand Final as well, when Wigan came away with a 9-2 victory.

The coaches

Willie Peters has done a remarkable job during his three years in charge of Hull KR. The Australian led them to a runners-up spot in the Challenge Cup Final in 2023 and the Super League Grand Final in 2024.

2025 is when they’ve turned near misses into trophies though, and they’ve already won the Challenge Cup and the League Leaders Shield. Adding the Super League crown on Saturday would be the icing on the cake.

Matt Peet’s had an even more impressive stint in charge of Wigan Warriors since taking over at the start of 2022.

He led the Warriors to the Challenge Cup in that year, then added another one in 2024. There have been two Super League titles as well – in 2023 and 2024 – plus two League Leaders’ Shields in 2023 and 2024, and a World Club Challenge success to top it off in 2024 as well.

Players to watch

Hull KR

If Hull KR are going to win, then Mikey Lewis will have a big part to play. The 2024 Man of Steel was quiet in last year’s Grand Final between these two, but he’ll be better for the experience 12 months on, and he’s had another stellar season which saw him nominated for the MOS again.

Elliot Minchella is the Robins’ inspirational captain and a player whose career has been rejuvenated under coach Willie Peters. In June he became only the second Hull KR captain to lift the Challenge Cup, and a big performance this weekend could see him become the first to lift the Super League trophy.

Wigan Warriors

Who else but Bevan French? The man for the big occasion just keeps turning up when his club need him, and his two tries played a big part in seeing off Leigh Leopards last weekend. He also scored the only try in the Grand Final last year, so expect to see a moment of magic from him at some point this weekend.

Kaide Ellis often flies under the radar for Wigan, but the Australian loose forward has played a big part in their success since arriving in 2022. He made 50 tackles and ran for 92 metres in their victory over Leigh last week, so expect another big effort from him this week.

Team news

Just one change for Hull KR from their win over St. Helens. Noah Booth comes into the squad in place of Eribe Doro.

Wigan have named an unchanged 21 from their semi-final win over Leigh.

My prediction – Hull KR 6-8 Wigan Warriors

If you’re expecting a free-flowing, attack-fest like the Storm and the Broncos dished up in last week’s NRL Grand Final then I think you’ll be disappointed with this one. That said, this should be a game for the RL purists, with two rock-solid defences potentially cancelling each other out for large parts of the game and some sprinklings of magic from players like Mikey Lewis and Bevan French.

I’m just edging towards Wigan again in this one, but Hull KR are even better than last year, so it won’t be a shock if they do get over the line this time around.

Betting tips

There aren’t many markets open yet, but Bevan French looks a good price for an anytime try at 2/1. Wigan are 4/6 for the win, which doesn’t look worth the risk for me, as I think it’s a 50/50 call.

Instead, I’ll be getting on the Warriors in the winning margin market when it opens, and back them to win by 1-7 points.
