Super League 2025 – Round 6 preview and predictions

Super League 2025 – Round 6 preview and predictions

There’s rarely a quiet week in rugby league, is there? The talk all week has been how the NRL are coming to take over Super League, and the social media whispers are talking about everything from merging the two Hull clubs to setting up an entirely French competition.

At least we’ve finally had confirmation that the Ashes will return this year, and I for one cannot wait. It also makes a nice change from all the doom and gloom around the NRL talks, particularly if you do think your club’s at risk of being booted out of any new setup.

Still, amid all the drama, there’s a round of Super League fixtures to look forward to, starting with a Yorkshire derby at the Jungle…

Thursday 27th March – Castleford Tigers vs Hull FC – The Jungle

Form guide

Cas are where most people would expect them to be with four defeats in their opening five games, including a 4-26 loss at home to Catalans Dragons last weekend.

As for Hull, they’re ticking along nicely under new coach John Cartwright, and a play-off spot looks a distinct possibility if they can maintain their early season form. Last time out, they saw off the Tigers’ close rivals Wakefield in a 12-16 away win.

Team news

The Tigers have only named a 20-man squad for this one, with Jeremiah Simbiken and George Hill dropping out from last weekend. Simbiken suffered a hamstring injury, while Hill has gone out on loan to Salford. Josh Hodson is available again for Cas, though.

Zak Hardaker and Jed Cartwright are both ruled out for Hull this week due to injury. Davy Litten and Will Kirby come into the squad in their absence.

My prediction – Castleford Tigers 8-16 Hull FC

I can see the Tigers competing, but the Black and Whites can make it five games unbeaten here, and these are the sort of games they need to be winning if they’re going to clinch a top six finish at the end of the year.

Betting tips

After witnessing his hat-trick up close against Wigan a couple of weeks ago, I’m backing Lewis Martin to score a try any time at 11/10. Hull with a -4 half-time handicap looks tasty at 10/11 as well.

Friday 28th March – Warrington Wolves vs Leeds Rhinos – Halliwell Jones Stadium

Form guide

Warrington have blown hot and cold so far this season, but they do have a Challenge Cup Quarter-Final to look forward to, and they picked up a battling 12-14 win at St Helens last week to have a 3-2 record in Super League.

The same can be said for Leeds, who grabbed their own hard-fought victory last weekend, in a 12-10 win over champions Wigan. The Rhinos also have a 3-2 record so far in Super League, but arguably their best chance of silverware has gone, after they were knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Saints.

Team news

Luke Yates is back for Warrington this weekend, but Josh Thewlis is ruled out through injury. Marc Sneyd will make his home debut for the Wire.

Leeds are unchanged from last week’s win over Wigan.

My prediction – Warrington Wolves 14-10 Leeds Rhinos

I’m expecting a close game here, but home advantage should just give Warrington a slight edge.

Betting tips

Matt Dufty or Matty Ahston to score the first try is 9/2, which looks an excellent price. Marc Sneyd is 5/1 to be named Man of the Match on his home debut as well, and if his kicking game proves the difference in a tight game, that could well come in.

Friday 28th March – Leigh Leopards vs Wakefield Trinity – Leigh Sports Village Stadium

Form guide

Leigh have been outstanding this year, but they were brought back down to earth with a bump in last weekend’s 30-0 mauling at Hull KR. They still sit 2nd in the table though, and have a Challenge Cup Quarter Final to look forward to next week – against Wakefield.

Speaking of Wakefeld, they’ve had a solid start in their return to Super League. Although they’ve lost all three home games, they’ve won both of their away fixtures, including a very impressive 16-30 win at Warrington in their last game on the road.

Team news

Frankie Halton, Robbie Mulhern and Josh Charnley are all back for Leigh this weekend. Andrew Badrock, AJ Towse and Nathan Wilde all drop out of the squad, with Wilde having joined Featherstone on loan earlier this week.

Isaiah Vagana replaces Corey Hall in the only change for Wakefield. Jake Trueman is an injury doubt, but has been named.

My prediction – Leigh Leopards 28-12 Wakefield Trinity

Leigh will be smarting after being nilled last week, and I can see them bouncing back in front of a noisy home crowd this week. Even though Wakefield’s wins have all come on the road in 2025, that has to come to an end at some point, and I can see it happening here.

Betting tips

I can see the Leopards scoring at least four tries, so the 9/1 on David Armstrong, Umyla Hanley and Josh Charnley all crossing the whitewash looks a good price. Leigh to win by 16-20 also looks good at 9/2.

Saturday 29th March – Catalans Dragons vs St Helens – Stade Gilbert Brutus

Form guide

After a woeful start to the year, the Dragons have picked up back-to-back wins in their last two Super League games, conceding just four points in the process. They look a shoo-in for a Challenge Cup semi-final spot too, with crisis club Salford heading to France next weekend.

As for Saints, it’s hard to put my finger on them. They started the year with three big wins, but with respect they came against Salford, Castleford and Wakefield. Their last two games are probably a truer measure of where they’re at, as they’ve been beaten by Grand Final contenders Hull KR and Warrington.

Team news

The squads haven’t been announced for this one yet, but the one player Catalans were sweating on would have been Alrix Da Costa. He’s avoided suspension for a high tackle last weekend though and is available.

Alrix Da Costa has avoided suspension and will be available this weekend.

Daryl Clark should be available for St Helens, despite going off injured last weekend against Warrington. Joe Batchelor is available again after overcoming a HIA.

Dayon Sambou was excellent on his debut last weekend, and could play again this week.

My prediction – Catalans Dragons 18-12 St Helens

This one’s so tough to call, but I’m backing the Dragons to continue their good recent form. The problem with both sides is that you don’t know which version will turn up, but it’s not often I back against Catalans in Perpignan, so I’m going for them to edge it.

Betting tips

As the squads haven’t been announced yet, there aren’t many markets available for this one. However, you can get Catalans with a -2 handicap at 10/11, which looks good to me. If you fancy a cheeky punt, get on Tevita Pangai Jr to cross for a try any time as well. The bulky prop doesn’t get many, but he bulldozed his way over last weekend, and he’ll be well priced to repeat the feat this week.

Sunday 30th March – Wigan Warriors vs Salford Red Devils – The Brick Community Stadium

Form guide

Champions Wigan come into this game off the back of two straight defeats. Last time out, they were beaten 12-10 at Leeds, but the week before was arguably more gutting as they blew a 22-6 lead to exit the Challenge Cup, 22-26 against Hull.

As for Salford, they’ve picked up back-to-back wins in the past two games, as they reached the Challenge Cup Quarter Final and saw off Huddersfield last weekend for their first league win of the year.

Team news

Squads haven’t been announced yet, but the big news out of the Wigan camp this week is that Brad O’Neill is available again after a long-term injury. The hooker suffered an ACL injury last July, which ruled him out of the run-in and the Warriors’ Grand Final victory. In less positive news, Abbas Miski will be missing for Wigan and Jai Field is 50/50.

Brad O’Neill will return this week for Wigan.

The Salford shambles continues this week, with coach Paul Rowley revealing on Wednesday that he only has 15 players to choose from. That includes new loan signing George Hill, who will make his debut. Nene Macdonald, Ben Hellewell and Sam Davis are all fit, but unable to play due to the club’s salary cap issues, while Harvey Wilson failed a HIA last week, so will definitely miss out as well. Centre Tim Lafai left the club earlier this week too.

George Hill has joined Salford on loan from Castleford, and should make his debut this weekend.

My prediction – Wigan Warriors 60-4 Salford Red Devils

If you just looked at this on paper, you’d think a team who have lost their last two might come unstuck against a side that’s won their last two, but this should be a Sunday afternoon stroll for Wigan. Salford are down to the bare bones, and if they’re only allowed two players on the bench, this could be a really long ad ugly afternoon for them.

Betting tips

With Salford’s ongoing issues, I can’t find any bookies with any markets on this game at the moment. If and when it does become available, Wigan with a very big margin looks a dead cert. -40 is as close to guaranteed as you’ll get, but I can;t see it being a great price. Multiple try scorers will probably be the best value, with Bevan French, Liam Marshall and Zach Eckersley all likely to cross.

Sunday 30th March – Huddersfield Giants vs Hull KR – John Smith’s Stadium

Form guide

It’s five games and five defeats so far for the Giants in Super League, and they went out of the Challenge Cup two weeks ago to Wakefield.

Hull KR’s form is the polar opposite. Five wins out of five sees them sitting pretty at the top of the table, and they’ve got a Challenge Cup Quarter Final to look forward to against local rivals Hull FC next week.

Team news

The squads haven’t been announced yet, but Oliver Wilson will miss the next two games through suspension for Huddersfield. Zac Woolford and Adam Clune remain long-term absentees, while in more bad news for the struggling Giants, Niall Evalds suffered a suspected broken foot during his debut last week, and will also miss a number of weeks.

Hull KR, meanwhile, are likely to make minimal changes from last weekend’s squad, with no major injuries reported.

My prediction – Huddersfield Giants 6-42 Hull KR

This has the potential to get very messy for the Giants. They’re ravaged by injury, and even with a fully-fit squad I couldn’t see them beating the Robins, who look red hot at the moment.

Betting tips

There aren’t many markets available yet, but Hull KR with a -14 handicap at 10/11 looks a shoo-in to me. Oliver Gildart has four tries in five games this year, and he’s my tip for an anytime try as well.
