Super League 2025 – Round 27 preview, predictions and tips

It’s the final round of the regular season already and half the competition will be saying goodbye to 2025 this weekend, while half of them have one eye on Old Trafford.

There’s still a bit to play for, with Hull KR looking to wrap up the League Leaders’ Shield on Thursday and Hull FC and Wakefield battling it out for 6th spot.

Let’s take a look at the previews, predictions and tips for Round 27…

*All odds are taken from Paddy Power and correct at time of writing on 18th September 2025.

Thursday 18th September – Hull KR vs Warrington Wolves – Sewell Group Craven Park

Form guide

The Robins lost convincingly last time out, as Wakefield beat them 28-12, after leading 26-0 at half-time. Still, it’s kept things a little bit interesting at least, and a win here will clinch the League Leaders’ Shield for certain.

The end of the season can’t come soon enough for Warrington, whose 34-2 loss at Hull FC last weekend was their fourth defeat in a row. Unless Catalans put on a record-breaking score against Hull FC this week, the Wire are destined to finish in 8th – five places and 20 points worse off than last year.

Team news

Just the one change for Hull KR this week, who aren’t taking any chances by naming a weakened squad. Joe Burgess drops out with Rhyse Martin replacing him after serving a suspension.

Warrington have named just a 20-man-squad for their final game of the year. Lachlan Fitzgibbon is missing through suspension, so his Wire career is now over, while Stefan Ratchford has also played his last game for the club – and the last of his career – after being left out as well. Youngsters James Duffy, Ben Hartill, Ewan Irwin, Tom McKinney and Lachlan Webster are all included.

My prediction – Hull KR 42-6 Warrington Wolves

This has the potential to be embarassing for Warrington. Granted, Hull KR have wobbled a little recently, but they’re at home and a win will secure the League Leaders’ Shield, so they’ll be fired up for this one, while the Wire will just be glad to hear the final whistle.

Betting tips

There’s not a whole lot of value in this one. Hull KR are 10/11 with a -34 handicap, which should be ok. The tryscoring markets are open too, and Oliver Gildart looks the best-priced for an anytime score at 10/11.

Thursday 18th September – Hull FC vs Catalans Dragons – MKM Stadium

Form guide

A 34-2 win over Warrington last weekend has given Hull FC a shot at finishing in the top six still. Win this one and they’ll climb in for 24 hours at least, which will put some pressure on Wakefield. Otherwise the Black and Whites will finish 7th – a vast improvement on last year’s 11th place.

The Dragons made it three wins from four games with last week’s shock 8-16 victory at Leeds. It’s all been too little too late as far as the play-offs go, but it’s encouraging signs for next year, particularly with the emergence of some of their young homegrown players. 9th looks a certainty for Catalans, unless Warrington lose and the Dragons put on a record score here.

Team news

Hull FC welcome Amir Bourouh and Yusuf Aydin back from suspension in place of Sam Eseh and Will Kirby.

Three changes for Catalans Dragons with Tevita Pangai Jr, Alrix Da Costa and Oliver Partington coming in. Tariq Sims, Tanguy Zenon and Léo Darrélatour all drop out.

My prediction – Hull FC 28-16 Catalans Dragons

The Dragons will be buoyed by last week’s win at Leeds, but with the Black and Whites needing a win to keep their play-off hopes alive, I can’t see them fluffing their lines when it counts.

Betting tips

Lewis Martin is 4/6 for an anytime try, which isn’t an amazing return but one I’m happy to go with. It’s the same price for Hull FC-Hull FC in the half-time/full-time market, and I’ll be getting on that too.

Friday 19th September – St. Helens vs Castleford Tigers – Totally Wicked Stadium

Form guide

St. Helens are limping into the play-offs, and last week’s 28-10 loss at Leigh was their third defeat in a row. Saints will finish the year in 5th – only a slight improvement on last year’s 6th-placed finish.

Castleford were destroyed 62-6 last weekened by Wigan – and they looked a shadow of the team who beat Wakefield the previous week. It’s been a miserable year for the Tigers, who look destined to finish 11th, unless they can magic a 40-point swing in their favour over Huddersfield.

Team news

St. Helens have made seven changes to last week’s squad. Morgan Knowles, Lewis Murphy, Noah Stephens, Will Roberts, Leon Cowen, Jake Davies and Cole Marsh all come in. Mark Percival, Alex Walmsley, Daryl Clark, Matty Lees, Curtis Sironen, George Delaney and Harry Robertson drop out.

Castleford have named an unchanged 21-man-squad from last week’s defeat at Wigan.

My prediction – St. Helens 24-10 Castleford Tigers

Surely Saints will sign off the regular season with a home win against a side sitting second-bottom. I’m not convinced they’ll blow Cas away, but they should win this one fairly routinely.

Betting tips

This is another game where I’m struggling to find value. Saints have been given a -24 handicap, which looks huge to me based on their current form, but equally I wouldn’t be surprised if they put on a show and win by 40+. On that basis, I’ll be sticking with the anytime tryscorers when the market opens. Lewis Murphy and Kyle Feldt will be my go-tos.

Friday 19th September – Leigh Leopards vs Huddersfield Giants – Leigh Sports Village

Form guide

The Leopards secured a top four finish in their 28-10 win over St. Helens last week, which was their fourth victory in a row. A win in this match will secure 3rd place, but any slip-ups will mean Leeds can climb above them with a victory.

Huddersfield secured a 22-8 win over improving Salford in Round 25. The Giants sit 10th and they look likely to remain there, unless Castleford can engineer a big points swing this week.

Team news

Leigh welcome Tesi Niu and Ethan O’Neill back into the squad this week. Edwin Ipape is suspended.

Lewis Jagger is named in the Huddersfield squad for what would be his first team debut. On the other end of the scale, Leroy Cudjoe will play the final game of his career.

My prediction – Leigh Leopards 36-10 Huddersfield Giants

It’s hard to see anything other than a comfortable win for the Leopards in this one. Leigh have been motoring towards a top three finish for some time, while the Giants will be glad to get 2025 over and done with.

Betting tips

This is another game where the handicap looks too uncertain to me, with Leigh at -28. There’s obviously no value with the 1/40 in the outright market, so again I’ll be looking at anytime tryscorers when the market opens. Tesi Niu and Bailey Hodgson will be my two picks, but I don’t know what the price will look like.

Friday 19th September – Salford Red Devils vs Wakefield Trinity – Salford Stadium

Form guide

It’s something of a miracle that Salford have made it to the end of the year, and this is likely to be their last Super League game for some time. The Red Devils put in an outstanding effort last week before eventually losing 22-8 to Huddersfield, just a week after a one-point loss against Catalans. The team will finish bottom, regardless of what happens in this match, but the staff and players can be extremely proud of their efforts this year.

The equation is simple for Wakefield this week. Win and they’re in the play-offs. Lose and they’re reliant on Hull FC losing as well. A superb 28-12 win over Hull KR last weekend has put Trinity in pole position ahead of this match, and regardless of whether or not they make the top six, it’s been a fantastic season in their first year back after promotion.

Team news

Salford have named just an 18-man squad this week. Loghan Lewis comes back from concussion, while Neil Tchamambe has been recalled by Wakefield, so he drops out.

Wakefield have named an unchanged 21 from last weekend.

My prediction – Salford Red Devils 12-28 Wakefield Trinity

Given what’s at stake for Wakefield in this one, I’d be surprised if they don’t get the job done. Salford have improved recently, but this should be a step too far for them.

Betting tips

As is usually the case, no markets are open at all for a Salford game yet. If and when the anytime tryscorer markets open I’ll be tipping Josh Rourke and Tom Johnstone for Wakefield.

Friday 19th September – Wigan Warriors vs Leeds Rhinos – The Brick Community Stadium

Form guide

Wigan have got their timing spot on when it comes to finding their best form ahead of the play-offs. The Warriors’ 62-6 win over Castleford last week made it four straight victories, with 164 points scored and just 16 conceded in those games. They’ve secured 2nd place, and if Hull KR lose to Warrington they might just sneak the League Leaders’ Shield.

After five straight wins, Leeds were brought back down to earth with a bump in last week’s surprise 8-16 loss at home to Catalans Dragons. The Rhinos are certain of a top four finish though, and they can still sneak 3rd with a win here and a Leigh loss against Huddersfield.

Team news

Just the one change for Wigan this week with Adam Keighran returning in place of Jacob Douglas.

Three changes for Leeds this week with Tom Nicholson-Watton, Joe Shorrocks Presley Cassell back in the squad. Lachlan Miller, Ryan Hall and Andy Ackers all drop out.

My prediction – Wigan Warriors 14-6 Leeds Rhinos

This is a tough one to call with neither side needing the win. They’ve both named strong squads though and will be looking to head into the play-offs on a high. I’m leaning towards Wigan though – they’ve looked the stronger side in recent weeks.

Betting tips

Wigan are just 1/8 for the win and they’ve been given a -16 handicap, which both look a bit much to me. I’ll be sticking with the anytime try market again when it opens, and Liam Marshall and Jai Field will be who I’m going with.
