Super League 2025 – Round 24 preview, predictions and tips

Super League 2025 – Round 24 preview, predictions and tips

There are just four games left to go before the play-offs, and it’s really hotting up now.

Hull KR’s heavy loss at Leeds last week has given Wigan some renewed hope of retaining the League Leaders’ Shield – especially after their impressive win over Wakefield last week.

Speaking of Trinity, they’re in a straight shootout with Hull FC for 6th place, and with games against three of the bottom four to come, they’re looking like the favourites right now.

What a weekend it promises to be, starting with the Tigers heading into the Leopards’ den…

*All odds are taken from Paddy Power and correct at time of writing on 27th August 2025.

Thursday 28th August – Leigh Leopards vs Castleford Tigers – Leigh Sports Village

Form guide

The Leopards picked up a routine 38-6 win over struggling Salford in Round 23. That victory followed back-to-back losses, and Leigh look all but certain of a play-off place now. They have a seven-point cushion inside the top six with four games to go.

Castleford were hammered 38-4 by Catalans Dragons last weekend, which made it four straight defeats. Just as worryingly, they haven’t scored more than six points in any of those games, although Salford’s demise means they’ll avoid finishing bottom this year.

Team news

The Leopards rested a number of players for the Salford game, but coach Adrian Lam has confirmed the likes of Edwin Ipape, Umyla Hanley and Gareth O’Brien will all play this week. Joe Ofahengaue and Owen Trout are missing, but Aaron Pene could make his first start since March.

Jenson Windley and Andy Djeukessi drop out for Castleford this week, but Joe Stimson is available again and there’s a recall for Tex Hoy as well.

My prediction – Leigh Leopards 36-6 Castleford Tigers

The Leopards shouldn’t have much trouble getting past the toothless Tigers this week. Cas look like a side waiting for the end of the season to come, whereas Leigh should be using games like this to build some momentum heading into the play-offs.

Betting tips

There aren’t many markets open yet, and for those which are, there isn’t a great deal of value. Instead, I’ll wait for the anytime try markets to open, when I’ll be getting on Josh Charnley and Bailey Hodgson, although I’m not expecting brilliant odds for either of them.

Friday 29th August – Hull KR vs St. Helens – Sewell Group Craven Park

Form guide

Having seemingly wrapped up the League Leaders’ Shield the previous week, Hull KR suffered a big loss to Leeds Rhinos last week, 28-6. That defeat means their gap at the top has been closed to four points again, but with only four games to go they’re still in the driving seat.

St. Helens made it four straight wins in their 16-10 victory over Hull FC last weekend. They head into this match in 3rd, and they have the joint-best defence in Super League alongside the Robins.

Team news

Two changes for Hull KR this week. Sauaso Sue and Rowan Milnes drop out, with Harvey Horne and Cobie Wainhouse coming in.

Two big blows for St. Helens this week with Owen Dagnall and Kyle Feldt dropping out of the squad. Leon Cowen and Jake Davies come in for them.

My prediction – Hull KR 14-10 St. Helens

This could be a classic, and with these two having the best defences in Super League, it should be a low-scoring affair. I’m tipping the Robins to edge it though, especially with home advantage.

Betting tips

Hull KR have been given a -10 handicap, which looks a little harsh on St. Helens to me. There’s not much value in the other markets at the moment either, so when the anytime try markets open I’ll be getting on Tom Davies for Hull KR and Harry Robertson for Saints.

Friday 29th August – Warrington Wolves vs Salford Red Devils – Halliwell Jones Stadium

Form guide

Warrington’s hopes of a play-off spot are surely over after last week’s 23-10 loss at Huddersfield. They’re five points behind 6th-placed Hull FC with only four games left to play.

Salford were beaten 38-6 by Leigh Leopards last time out. It was one of their less heavy defeats this year, but a defeat nevertheless. Remarkably, they still have a mathematical chance of finishing as high as 10th, but if they can simply fulfill their remaining fixtures, it’ll be an acheivement.

Team news

Warrington will be without Ben Currie and James Harrison for the remainder of the season through injury, while Lachlan Fitzgibbon is ruled out this week due to concussion. Sam Stone has been rested against his former club, while Connor Wrench’s shock retirement earlier this week leaves another gap. Ewan Smith and Tom McKinney come in for their senior debuts, while Leon Hayes will make his comeback after a long injury lay-off.

Salford will have another two debutants this weekend, after Jack Walker and Isaac Shaw signed earlier this week. Otherwise, it’s much the same as last week with Leon Ruan, Louix Gorman and Jack Darbyshire all extending their loans ahead of this game.

My prediction – Warrington Wolves 44-6 Salford Red Devils

Looking at Salford’s squad, they actually have something half resembling a Super League team this week. That being said, they’ve all been cobbled together at various times throughout the year, so there won’t exactly have been loads of time to work on team shape, structures, set plays etc, so this should still be a comfortable win for the Wire.

Betting tips

As is now customary for a Salford game, there aren’t any betting markets available at all. Then again, they don’t normally have a squad named in advance either, so I wouldn’t be surprised if a few markets do open before the game. My money will be going on Josh Thewlis and Jake Thewlis for anytime tries if the price is right, but I can’t see the odds being particularly good.

Saturday 30th August – Hull FC vs Leeds Rhinos – MKM Stadium

Form guide

Hull FC put up a spirited display last week against St. Helens, but ultimately lost 16-10. They remain 6th though – one point ahead of Wakefield in the battle for the play-offs.

As for Leeds, they put in arguably their best display of the year in their 28-6 win over Hull KR. That made it three wins in a row for the Rhinos, who have an outside chance of sneaking into the top two.

Team news

Squads haven’t been announced yet, but Jed Cartwright will definitely be missing for Hull FC after he was ruled out for the rest of the year. Liam Knight is also out for the year, while Sam Eseh will be missing this week, but should be available for next weekend. One positive this week is the expected return of Liam Watts following a concussion.

Jack Ashworth is available for Hull FC this weekend after avoiding a ban at the disciplinary earlier this week.

Leeds Rhinos coach Brad Arthur has confirmed that Ash Handley will be missing for at least the next two games. Mikolaj Oledzki and Cooper Jenkins should be good to go following injury though, while Max Simpson and Ned McCormack could be back as well. Simpson has only played two reserve games in the past two years after a serious knee injury, while McCormack has just come back in the reserves after more than a year out.

Ash Handley is ruled out this week for Leeds.

My prediction – Hull FC 12-26 Leeds Rhinos

On paper this could have been a really close game, but the Black and Whites have so many big names missing that I can’t see anything other than a Rhinos victory in this one.

Betting tips

Leeds have been given a -4 handicap for this one, which I’m happy to jump on. That’s priced at 10/11. They’re also 11/10 in the half-time/full-time market, and I’ll be getting on that too.

Saturday 30th August – Wakefield Trinity vs Huddersfield Giants – DIY Kitchens Stadium

Form guide

Wakefield were humbled 44-2 by Wigan last time out, but they’re just a point behind Hull FC in the battle for the final play-off spot, and with a much kinder run-in.

As for Huddersfield, they picked up a magnificent 23-10 win over Warrington last weekend, and they have one eye on 9th-placed Catalans heading into the final four games of the season.

Team news

Again, squads haven’t been announced yet, but Wakefield have loaned Jack Croft to Salford, so he’s definitely unavailable for them.

Jack Croft has gone out on loan to Salford this week.

Huddersfield will have Taane Milne available again this week after he served a one-match suspension against Warrington. Otherwise, the squad should be largely similar to the one that toppled the Wire.

Taane Milne is available again this week for Huddersfield.

My prediction – Wakefield Trinity 26-18 Huddersfield Giants

Wakefield will be smarting after last week’s thrashing against Wigan, but I’m expecting them to bounce back, as they still have a great chance of making the top six. They won’t have it all their own way against an ever-improving Giants side though.

Betting tips

This is another game where I’m not entirely convinced by the handicap, which stands at -14 for Wakefield. Therefore I’ll be looking at the anytime try market when it opens, and Tom Johnstone will be my go-to for Trinity. For the Giants, I’m getting on George Flanagan after his impressive display and two-try display last weekend.

Saturday 30th August – Catalans Dragons vs Wigan Warriors – Stade Gilbert Brutus

Form guide

The Dragons picked up a rare victory last weekend, as they saw off Castleford, 38-4. That followed a run of six straight defeats for Catalans, who currently sit in 9th.

Wigan picked up a morale-boosting 44-2 win over Wakefield last weekend – a victory which moved them to within four points of league leaders, Hull KR. Equally important, is that it keeps them two points clear of St. Helens and Leeds as they look to claim at least a top two spot.

Team news

Squads haven’t been announced yet, but one player who definitely won’t be playing for Catalans Dragons is Sam Tomkins. The former Wigan fullback has announced his retirement with immediate effect.

Sam Tomkins has called time on his Catalans – and rugby league – career.

Wigan will be without Ethan Havard after he picked up a one-match suspension earlier in the week. That could open the door for Tyler Dupree after he was 18th man last week. Adam Keighran is available to face his former club, despite going off early with an injury against Wakefield.

Ethan Havard is suspended this week for Wigan.

My prediction – Catalans Dragons 12-24 Wigan Warriors

I’m expecting the Dragons to cause a few problems for Wigan after their recent improvements, but the Warriors should still have too much for them – especially if Bevan French is fit and firing again this week.

Betting tips

Again, I’ll be looking at the anytime try markets when they open for this one, as there’s not much value in the outright or handicap markets. Jai Field and Jake Wardle will be my picks.
