Super League 2025 – Round 22 preview, predictions and tips

Super League 2025 – Round 22 preview, predictions and tips

The end of the season’s fast approaching now, and Friday night’s game at the Brick Community Stadium is about as big as it gets in the regular rounds.

A win for Wigan and they’re right back in the hunt for the League Leaders’ Shield, but defeat means Hull KR will have one hand on their second piece of silverware in 2025.

Elsewhere, the Saturday teatime clash at the MKM looks to be the pick of the bunch, and there are a couple of other games where upsets could be on the cards.

*All odds are taken from Paddy Power and correct at time of writing on 13th August 2025.

Thursday 14th August – Warrington Wolves vs Catalans Dragons – Halliwell Jones Stadium

Form guide

Warrington were spirited in defeat at home to Wigan last week, but their latest loss made it three in a row, with the play-offs looking out of reach. The Wire are five points shy of the top six with just six games to go.

As for the Dragons, their sorry season can’t end soon enough. An 18-6 loss at Huddersfield in Round 21 was their fifth defeat in a row, and 11th in their last 12 games. They’re only one place below this week’s opponents, but with a six-point gap to make up and just two points separating them from the teams in 10th and 11th, they’re looking over their shoulders rather than ahead of them.

Team news

Adam Holroyd and Connor Wrench are back for Warrington this week after missing last week’s match through injury and concussion respectively. Max Wood and Cai Taylor-Wray drop out. Matt Dufty’s likely to be recalled to the starting lineup after being dropped for disciplinary reasons last week.

Catalans Dragons welcome back Nick Cotric and Tevita Pangai Jr this week. Tariq Sims and Leo Darrelatour drop out.

My prediction – Warrington Wolves 24-6 Catalans Dragons

Warrington have played ok in recent games, despite being on the wrong end of the scoreline. As for the Dragons, there have been very little signs of encouragement, and I don’t expect that to change here.

Betting tips

I’m getting straight on Warrington with a -10 handicap, at 1/1. They’re also 17/10 to win by 15+ points, which I also like the look of.

Friday 15th August – Wigan Warriors vs Hull KR – The Brick Community Stadium

Form guide

Wigan edged past Warrington in Round 21 with an 18-24 victory at the Halliwell Jones. More importantly though, Leigh’s defeat at home to Leigh means the Cherry and Whites have a three-point cushion to 3rd. As far as the League Leaders’ Shield goes though, it’s do-or-die this week for the Warriors.

Hull KR have bounced back from their recent mini-wobble to win their past three games. Last week they saw off Castleford in a 36-6 home win, and they’ve conceded just 24 points across those three games too.

Team news

Two changes for Wigan this week. Abbas Miski is back after long-term injury and he’s joined by Harvey Makin. Tom Forber drops out and Junior Nsemba is ruled out with concussion.

One change for Hull KR with former Wigan man Michael McIlorum dropping out. Rowan Milnes replaces him after joining on loan from Castleford last week.

My prediction – Wigan Warriors 14-12 Hull KR

Where do I even start with this one? On paper, the Robins should be favourites, but the Warriors have a habit of turning up in the big matches and with a huge home crowd behind them, I think they might just edge it.

Betting tips

These two are so closely matched that there’s a nice profit to be made on the outright win, whichever way you go. I’m going with my gut and backing Wigan at 5/6 though. As I’m expecting such a close contest, the 4/1 on a winning margin of 1-7 points is a no-brainer as well.

Saturday 16th August – Castleford Tigers vs Leeds Rhinos – Mend-A-Hose Jungle

Form guide

Castleford were soundly beaten, 36-6, by Hull KR in their last outing. That followed a 40-0 hammering at St. Helens, as their season peters out to a disappointing finish. They remain in 10th, but they’re only two points behind Catalans Dragons as they look to climb the table in the closing weeks.

It’s been a great week or so for Leeds, on the other hand. After much speculation, coach Brad Arthur has signed a new contract for 2026, and their impressive 14-22 win at Leigh last time out cemented their 5th-placed spot on the table. They’re six points inside the play-off places with six games to go.

Team news

The squads haven’t been announced for this one yet, but Castleford will definitely be without Jeremiah Simbiken after he was hit with a one-match ban. Fletcher Rooney was a late withdrawal last week, so he may be a doubt again this week.

Jeremiah Simbiken will be out for the Tigers this week through suspension.

Leeds will definitely be without Mikolaj Oledzki and Tom Holroyd, but coach Brad Arthur has confirmed they’ve both got a chance of returning next weekend.

Mikolaj Oledzki is back in training for the Rhinos, but this week is likely to be too soon for his comeback.

My prediction – Castleford Tigers 10-22 Leeds Rhinos

With this being a derby game I’d expect the Tigers to give it a good crack, but if Leeds play anything close to their best, they shouldn’t have too much trouble getting past them.

Betting tips

There aren’t many markets open yet and I don’t like the look of the ones that are when it comes to value. Instead, I’ll wait for the anytime try market to open, and I’ll be getting on Leeds’ Lachlan Miller and Harry Newman.

Saturday 16th August – Hull FC vs Leigh Leopards – MKM Stadium

Form guide

Hull FC demolished Salford, 80-6, in Round 21, but that’s hardly a reliable barometer of where they’re at. Their four games before that rout have yielded two wins and two losses, so inconsistency continues to blight their campaign. Still, they’re just inside the top six heading into this weekend – one point above Wakefield.

Meanwhile, Leigh’s superb run of form came to a halt in Round 21 as Leeds beat them 14-22 at the LSV. Their four straight wins leading into that game have given them a solid platform though, and they remain 3rd – although they’re only one point clear of St. Helens and Leeds.

Team news

Again, the teams haven’t been announced yet, but Hull FC will be without Ed Chamberlain for a few weeks after he picked up an injury against Salford. Aidan Sezer missed that match, so it’s doubtful whether he’ll be back this week.

Aidan Sezer is an injury doubt for Hull FC this week.

Leigh coach Adrian Lam confirmed earlier in the week that there’s likely to be minimal changes to his squad. Robbie Mulhern came through unscathed on his return last week, while Aaron Pene is expected to make a comeback in the reserves this week.

Robbie Mulhern made a successful return for Leigh last weekend.

My prediction – Hull FC 12-20 Leigh Leopards

The problem with Hull FC is that you never know which version’s going to show up. If they play like they did at Wigan a few weeks ago then Leigh are in trouble, but given the Leopards’ consistency I’m tipping them in this one.

Betting tips

Leigh with a -6 handicap looks ok at 10/11. I’m backing them in the half-time/full-time market as well, which is 5/6.

Sunday 17th August – St. Helens vs Huddersfield Giants – Totally Wicked Stadium

Form guide

St. Helens were hugely impressive in their 4-34 win at Wakefield last weekend. They’ve won seven of their past eight games, and their rock solid defence is second only to Hull KR in the competition. They’re 4th heading into this weekend – one point behind Leigh Leopards.

The Giants, meanwhile, made it back-to-back wins for the first time this year in their 18-6 win over Catalans Dragons last weekend. That victory brought them level on points with 10th-placed Castleford.

Team news

Squads haven’t been announced yet, but St. Helens are boosted by the availability of George Delaney. He faced the Match Review Panel earlier this week, but has been cleared to play. Curtis Sironen failed his HIA, so he’s out this week, while Jake Wingfield left the stadium on crutches, so he’s a long shot to make this week.

Curtis Sironen will miss out through concussion this week for Saints.

No news out of Huddersfield so far on the injury front. There’s been some positive news for the Giants this week with Niall Evalds signing a permanent two-year contract, but he’s set to miss the rest of 2025 through injury.

Niall Evalds will be a Giants player permanently after signing a two-year deal this week.

My prediction – St. Helens 38-10 Huddersfield Giants

Even though Huddersfield have made some impressive strides recently, this just feels like a match too far. Saints have been quietly going about their business and racking up wins in recent weeks, and this game shouldn’t hold any fear for them.

Betting tips

Saints should be safe with a -20 handicap, which is 10/11. I like the look of the first half to be the highest scoring one too, at 5/4.

Sunday 17th August – Salford Red Devils vs Wakefield Trinity – Salford Stadium

Form guide

Salford’s latest defeat felt particularly bitter after the loss of four players in the lead-up to the match and a host of on-loan youngsters thrown together on the morning of the match. For the record, they lost 80-6 to Hull FC, but the fact they put a team out is a credit to them. Unsurprisngly, they’re rock bottom and it’ll take a miracle for them not to concede 1,000 points this year.

As for Wakefield, they were humbled 4-34 at home to St. Helens last week, but they remain in 7th and just one point outside the play-off places.

Team news

Salford assistant coach Krisnan Inu gave an update on Wednesday, and he’s said he has no idea how the team will look this weekend. That gives you some idea of the mess at Salford, who have used 61 players in 2025 already. One player who’s unlikely to play this week is Harvey Makin. The youngster made his debut last weekend after arriving on loan from Wigan, but the Warriors have named him in their squad this week, so we’ll wait and see if another loan is arranged.

Salford’s makeshift side were hammered 80-6 by Hull FC in Round 21.

No news out of Wakefield this week, so expect minimal changes to the squad that faced St. Helens in Round 21.

Josh Griffin will leave Wakefield at the end of 2025 to join York Knights.

My prediction – Salford Red Devils 6-72 Wakefield Trinity

As it’s been every week this year, you can pretty much pluck a number out of the air for Salford’s opponents.

Betting tips

I won’t bother this week, as I don’t think any markets even opened for last week’s games. Bookies don’t like giving their money away, so I can’t see any bets being available again for this one.
