Huddersfield Giants 2025 season review

Huddersfield Giants 2025 season review

Overview

It was more of the same for the Giants in 2025 as they missed out on the play-offs for a third-straight season.

To be frank, they never looked remotely like troubling the top six, as they lost their first nine games of the season. A 12-10 win over Hull FC at Magic Weekend in Round 10 was the turning point though, and although there were still more bad losses to come they were much more competitive from that point on.

They went on to finish an incredible 16 points shy of the play-offs, but bottom was never likely either when Salford’s season spiralled so out of control.

Highs

That Magic Weekend win over Hull FC got the monkey off the Giants’ backs, and set the platform for a better second half of the season.

Their 30-14 win against the same opposition in Round 20 was their best performance of the year, and although it’s rare to include a loss in a list of highs, their display against Wigan in Round 14 was outstanding too, when only a try after the hooter saw the Warriors home.

Individually, there were a few strong performers, most notably George Flanagan, who looks destined for bigger and better things.

Lows

Nine straight losses to start the year killed Huddersfield’s season before it even started. Salford aside, they also had the worst attack in Super League in 2025, and they were nilled on three occasions.

It would be unfair not to mention injuries either, as no side suffered more on that front than the Giants in 2025. First-choice halves pairing Tui Lolohea and Adam Clune lined up together just twice, while Niall Evalds arrived from Hull KR and only managed two games before being ruled out for the rest of the year.

2025 RLB Player of the Year – George Flanagan

The young fullback was outstanding for the Giants, finishing the campaign with 10 tries, 42 goals and 14 linebreaks. Stats alone don’t do him justice though, as the 20-year-old was responsible for many of Huddersfield’s most promising moments throughout the year.

Reasons to be positive in 2026

It’s hard to imagine Huddersfield will suffer as many injuries in 2026, so even just having their best players available should see them climb at least a place or two in the table.

My 2025 prediction – 11th

Final 2025 position – 10th (+1)

Another prediction I’m pleased with. Under rookie coach Luke Robinson I didn’t expect to see Huddersfield trouble the top six and that proved to be the case.
