Super League 2025 – Round 2 preview and predictions

After a thrilling opening weekend, round 2 of Super League is already here, starting tonight…
Wakefield Trinity vs Hull KR – Thursday 20th February – 8PM – DIY Kitchens Stadium
Round 2 will get underway in front of a sell-out crowd in Wakefield tonight as Trinity kick off round 2 with their first home game of the year. They picked up a fully deserved 12-14 win at Leeds on the opening weekend.
As for the Robins, they needed Golden Point to see off Castleford Tigers, 19-18. Reigning Man of Steel Mikey Lewis getting the all important drop goal.
Team news
Jayden Myers, Isaac Shaw and Cain Staveley-Carr come into the Wakefield squad this week, in place of Ky Rodwell, Liam Hood and Matty Russell.
Hull KR have named an unchanged squad from their round one win over Castleford.
Our prediction – Wakefield 12-14 Hull KR
I’m expecting a close game in this one, with Wakefield likely to pose plenty of questions for the Robins defence. I can see Rovers just edging it though.
Top tip
With this one likely to be a tight game, Wakefield with a +12 handicap looks a great shout at 10/11.
Warrington Wolves vs Catalans Dragons – Friday 21st February – 8PM – Luke Littler Stadium
The Wire get their home campaign underway at the temporarily-named Luke Littler Stadium on Friday night, as a tribute to the World Darts Champion, and local lad.
A strong second half in round one saw Warrington beat Huddersfield 12-20, while the Dragons were soundly beaten at home by Hull, 4-24.
Team news
Lachlan Fitzgibbon replaces Rodrick Tai for Warrington, in the only change from last weekend.
The Dragons have also made one change to their squad, with Matthieu Laguerre replacing Romain Navarrete.
Our prediction – Warrington Wolves 24-8 Catalans Dragons
The Wire should be too strong at home for an out-of-sorts Dragons team, who scraped past Championship side Halifax in the Challenge Cup, and were comfortably beaten by Hull in round one. Things should click at some point for Catalans, but I can’t see it happening this week.
Top tip
At 9/4, Warrington to win by 11-20 points looks too good to pass up.
Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors – Friday 21st February – 8PM – MKM Stadium
The Black and Whites looked mightily impressive in round one, as they secured a 4-24 win against Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.
As for the Warriors, they were beaten in Golden Point by Leigh, in an incredible 0-1 loss. Despite the defeat, it was a fifth straight Super League game without conceding a try for Wigan.
Team news
The Black and Whites have made four changes to last weekend’s squad with Ed Chamberlain, Will Gardiner, Will Kirby and Will Hutchinson coming in for Zak Hardaker (groin), Amir Bourouh (head), Jed Cartwright (hamstring), and Ryan Westerman.
Wigan have named an unchanged squad from last weekend.
Our prediction – Hull FC 10-14 Wigan Warriors
The Wigan try line should finally be breached this weekend, but I think they’ll have enough to get past Hull, despite their impressive start to the year. This should be another tight game though.
Top tip
At 10/11, Liam Marshall looks a good anytime try scorer bet for Wigan.
Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos – Saturday 22nd February – 3pm – Salford Community Stadium
The less said about Salford last weekend, the better. The Red Devils suffered the biggest loss in Super League history – 82-0 – at St Helens, but I’ll leave it there.
As for Leeds, they were also beaten, as newly-promoted Wakefield picked up a 12-14 win at Headingley.
Team news
After last week’s shambles, all the big hitters are back for Salford, with Joe Bullock and Tiaki Chan the only two players not replaced.
Jarrod O’Connor replaces Mikolaj Oledzki in the only change for Leeds. Oledzki will miss out due to his concussion last weekend.
Our prediction – Salford Red Devils 18-10 Leeds Rhinos
In front of their home fans, and with a strong team named, I think Salford will get their season up and running with a win this weekend. Leeds were unimpressive in round one and should be better here, but the Red Devils’ home advantage could tip it in their favour.
Top tip
Nene Macdonald to score anytime and Salford to win is a a nicely priced 9/4.
Castleford Tigers vs St Helens – Saturday 22nd February – 8pm – The Jungle
Cas were very impressive in round one, and unfortuante to be edged out in Golden Point by Hull KR.
As for Saints, we shouldn’t read too much into their 82-0 demolition of Salford’s reserves, but Tristan Sailor’s four tries gives him a great head start in the race to be Super League’s top try scorer in 2025.
Team news
Lee Kershaw could make his Tigers debut after joining on loan this week from Hull KR, while Ben Davies has returned to parent club St Helens after just one game for Cas.
Lewis Murphy suffered a hamstring injury in round one and looks set to miss around two months. Moses Mbye is also out of the squad this weekend, with Jake Burns and George Whitby replacing them.
Our prediction – Castleford Tigers 6-14 St Helens
Cas put in a very spirited performance in round one, and another one like that could see them win this one. However, Saints should have too much class for them, especially if Tristan Sailor is in form again.
Top tip
Tristan Sailor to score a try in each half looks huge at 18/1.
Leigh Leopards vs Huddersfield Giants – Sunday 23rd February – 2.30PM – Leigh Sports Village
The Leopards put in an incredible defensive effort against champions Wigan last weekend, and fully deserved their 0-1 win.
As for the Giants, they gave Warrington a stern test in the first half before falling away to lose 12-20 by full-time.
Team news
The squads haven’t been named yet for this one, but Leigh are expected to be without Josh Charnley for the next four weeks after he aggravated a hamstring injury against Wigan.
Huddersfield are unlikely to have any of their injured list back yet.
Our prediction – Leigh Leopards 20-6 Huddersfield Giants
I’d be surprised if Leigh don’t win this one. It might be a bit tighter than this given Huddersfield’s solid effort against Warrington, but either way I’d expect the Leopards to have too much for them
Top tip
Leigh to win by either 1-10 points or 11-20 points looks a good price at 9/4.
