Super League 2025 preview and predictions

There’s Nothing Like League
After 125 long days since the Grand Final, Super League is finally back! Last weekend’s Challenge Cup third round was the perfect appetiser and now it’s time for the main course.
And where better to start with my predictions than a look at how I see the table finishing after round 27. Last year I got 4/12 right…which counts for absolutely nothing this year!

The play-offs
It’s hard to see past Wigan finishing top again given how strong they were in 2024. I’m backing Warrington and Hull KR to run them close again though after they both had impressive campaigns last year.
In 4th, I’m backing Catalans Dragons to bounce back after a disappointing 2024. I’ve been really impressed with their recruitment, and if they can gel on the pitch, they’ll be a force again this season.
Speaking of forces, St Helens aren’t as good as they were, but they’re still more than capable of a top six finish, so I’m backing them to claim 5th. And making up the top six, I’m going for Leigh Leopards again, following a couple of outstanding years back in the top flight.
The chasing pack
In the bottom half of the table I’m expecting Leeds to just miss out on the play-offs again. They look a good side under Brad Arthur, but I think there are stronger teams in front of them.
Hull’s recruitment has me confident they’ll be far better than they were in 2024, but I can still see them falling short. In 9th, I never learn my lesson and I’m going for Salford to miss out again, even though they always perform better than I expect.
I’ve gone for newly promoted Wakefield in 10th, then Huddersfield and Castleford making up the bottom two, and someway behind everyone above them.
Grand Final Winners – Wigan Warriors
I can see Wigan being pushed all the way again in 2025, but I just can’t see anyone doing quite enough to topple them. Warrington and Hull KR will go close, but when it comes to the big games, the Warriors just always seem to find something extra.
Challenge Cup Winners – Warrington Wolves
I’ve completely contradicted my previous comments, but I couldn’t back Wigan to win the lot again, even though they just might. Plenty of teams will fancy their chances of a cup win, and I’m backing Sam Burgess’ boys to leave Wembley with some silverware.
Steve Prescott Man of Steel – George Williams
If the Wire are going to have a big year then Williams will be at the heart of it. As long as he stays fit, he’ll be one of the first names on the teamsheet and his influence will go a long way towards Warrington being involved at the business end of the year.
Super League Young Player of the Year – Lewis Martin
Martin was one of the few bright sparks for Hull FC in 2024, with the 20 year-old winger crossing for nine tries throughout the year. I expect to see him get into double figures in 2025.
Super League top try scorer – Liam Marshall
Marshall bagged this award in 2024 and I’m tipping him to do it again this year. He’s the logical choice if Wigan are to do as well as I expect, and most of their attacks go down his side too.
Super League Coach of the Year – Matt Peet
If Wigan are to finish top and win the Grand Final again, then it’s hard to see past Matt Peet. If they do finish top of the pile again and it’s not him, then it’s likely to be the coach of one of the unfancied teams if they outperform themselves. If that’s the case, John Cartwright at Hull would be my outside tip.
So, there we have it. Add your comments below or get in touch on social media to let me know how wrong I am and I’ll be sure to look back at this in October to see how badly things went!
