Super League 2026 – Round 9 preview, predictions and tips

Can you believe after this weekend we’re already a third of the way through the season?

Super Leaague’s flying by in 2026, but I’ll take that as a sign of how competitive it is this year. Just two points separate the top six, and champions Hull KR aren’t even in there…yet.

And this weekend’s shaping up to be another cracker…

Thursday 23rd April – York Knights vs Toulouse Olympique

Form guide

York suffered their fifth straight defeat last weekend, as their bright start to the year fades into the distance. They sit 13th heading into this weekend.

It’s a similar story for Toulouse, who are rock bottom after a six-game losing streak. They were beaten 46-0 by Hull KR last time out.

Team news

York have named an unchanged squad from last week’s loss to Leigh.

Benjamin Laguerre replaces Victor Collin in the only change this week for Toulouse.

My prediction – York Knights 12-16 Toulouse Olympique

This game could really go either way with both sides struggling at the wrong end of the table. Based on the fact the Knights have a few missing, I’m just leaning towards the away side.

Betting tips

York are big favourites in this, but I think it could go either way. On that basis, the 15/8 on a Toulouse win is way too good to pass up. As I’m expecting a close game, the 5/1 on a 1-7 winning margin looks very tempting as well.

Thursday 23rd April – Leigh Leopards vs Huddersfield Giants

Form guide

The Leopards picked up a much-needed 18-6 win over York last time out. It was just their third victory of the season and lifted them to 10th.

Huddersfield were well beaten by Leeds (56-22), as their two-game winning run came to an end. They’re 12th heading into this weekend.

Team news

Leigh have named fullback David Armstrong for the first time this year after an ACL injury. Centres Umyla Hanley and Tesi Niu remain out.

Lewis Jagger replaces Sam Halsall in the only Huddersfield change this week.

My prediction – Leigh Leopards 22-18 Huddersfield Giants

This is another one that could really go either way, with both sides struggling. I’m just leaning towards the home side though in a tight contest.

Betting tips

Leigh have been given a -10 handicap, which I’m not entirely convinced by. Instead I’ll be backing Josh Charnley and David Armstrong for anytime tries.

Friday 24th April – Leeds Rhinos vs Catalans Dragons

Form guide

The Rhinos’ impressive 56-22 win over Huddersfield last weekend saw them go top of the table.

The Dragons had their own big win last weekend. Their 38-22 victory over Warrington saw them climb into the top six.

Team news

Just one change this week for Leeds. Jeremiah Mata’utia drops out after joining Hull FC on loan. Riley Lumb comes into the squad in his place.

Josh Allen replaces Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e in the only change for Catalans Dragons this week.

My prediction – Leeds Rhinos 24-16 Catalans Dragons

This could be another tough one to call after the Dragons’ big win over Warrington. I’m leaning towards the Rhinos at home though.

Betting tips

There probably won’t be much value in it, but Maika Sivo for an anytime try will be my go-to when the market opens. I’ll also back Jack Bird to do the same, which should provide a bit more value.

Friday 24th April – Warrington Wolves vs Wigan Warriors

Form guide

Warrington were comfortably beaten 38-22 by the Dragons last week, which made it two defeats from three. They sit 4th heading into this game.

Wigan are one place below after a surprise 24-14 loss at home to Castleford last weekend. The Warriors have lost their last three in Super League.

Team news

George Williams and James Harrison are both ruled out through injury for Warrington. Toff Sipley and Cai Taylor-Wray are back to replace them.

Wigan welcome Jake Wardle back ahead of schedule in their only change. Dayon Sambou drops out to make way.

My prediction – Warrington Wolves 28-18 Wigan Warriors

It seems unthinkable the Warriors could lose four in a row, but I just can’t see them getting the win here. They’re more than capable, but I’m leaning towards the Wire.

Betting tips

Warrington are 10/11 with a -2 handicap, which I’m straight on. I’ll also back Josh Thewlis for an anytime try when the market opens.

Friday 24th April – Castleford Tigers vs Hull FC

Form guide

Castleford pulled off a shock 24-14 win at Wigan last weekend to climb to 11th.

Hull FC were beaten 24-14 at home by St Helens, and John Cartwright left his role as Head Coach shortly after. The Aussie’s departure had already been announced for the end of the season, but was brought forward. He leaves with the Black and Whites in 9th.

Team news

Castleford are unchanged from the squad that beat Wigan last week.

Interim Hull FC coach Andy Last has made two changes to the squad that lost to Saints last week. Jake Arthur’s back from injury and Leeds loanee Jeremiah Mata’utia joins the squad. Sam Lisone misses out through injury and Will Kirby drops out.

My prediction – Castleford Tigers 16-22 Hull FC

This is another game where I’m struggling to separate the two sides. Hull FC are without a permanent coach and have loads of injuries, while the Tigers have had more bad results than good…then they go and beat Wigan on their own patch. I’m just leaning towards the Black and Whites in this one.

Betting tips

I’m backing Hull FC with a -2 handicap at 10/11. Lewis Martin’s overdue a try, so I’m backing him for an anytime score as well when the market opens.

Saturday 25th April – Bradford Bulls vs Hull KR

Form guide

The Bulls have lost their last three games after an encouraging start to life back in Super League. They’re currently 8th with a 3-5 record.

It’s the opposite for Hull KR, who have bounced back from a slow start to win their last three in Super League. They’re 7th heading into this weekend.

Team news

Squads haven’t been announced yet, but Bradford coach Kurt Haggerty has revealed, they’re down to just 15 fit players. Esan Marsters and Joe Mellor were the latest two to suffer injuries last time out, with Marsters ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Esan Marsters is out for the rest of the season.

Oliver Gildart limped off for Hull KR last week, so he’s a doubt for this game. If he’s ruled out, Noah Booth could come into contention.

Oliver Gildart’s a doubt for Hull KR this week.

My prediction – Bradford Bulls 6-54 Hull KR

The Robins have found form recently and against an injury-hit Bulls side, I can only see this going one way, and comfortably so.

Betting tips

There are very few markets open for this one yet, but Hull KR should be safe with a -34 handicap at 10/11. When the anytime try market opens, there won’t be loads of value in the favourites, but Peta Hiku was 8/5 last week, and anything like that again will be a great price.

Saturday 25th April – St Helens vs Wakefield Trinity

Form guide

Saints are ticking along nicely, and their 24-14 win at Hull FC last week has them sitting in 3rd – level on points with leaders Leeds. Standing between St Helens and the Rhinos is…

Wakefield. Trinity bounced back from their Challenge Cup exit with a 52-12 win over Bradford last week to make it five straight wins in Super League.

Team news

Again, squads haven’t been announced yet, but St Helens will definitely be without Deon Cross. The centre failed his HIA in the win over Hull FC last week. Shane Wright will be available again though, while Nene McDonald and Jonny Lomax could come back into contention.

Deon Cross will miss out this week for St Helens.

Wakefield will be without Jazz Tevaga again, as he serves the second game of his two-match ban. He suffered a knee injury in the incident that led to his ban, which is set to keep him out for a few more weeks anyway. Isaiah Vagana is also likely to miss out this week again through injury.

Jazz Tevaga is suspended this week for Wakefield.

My prediction – St Helens 14-18 Wakefield Trinity

I have a sneaky feeling that Trinity could nick this one. They’re in fine form and even their Challenge Cup defeat could have gone the other way. Saints are doing well themselves, but they still have a few players missing and Wakefield will fancy their chances here.

Betting tips

St Helens are favourites, so I’m jumping straight on a Wakefield win at 12/5. I’ll also back Tom Johnstone for an anytime try when the market opens.
