Parramatta Eels 2025 season review
Overview
2025 was a year of transition for the Eels, as the Jason Ryles era got underway. They won just two of their opening nine games, which meant a Finals charge was over before it even started, but a strong back end to the year saw them finish a respectable 11th.
Five wins from their last seven games saw them climb the ladder as they finished six points outside the top eight. There were notable victories over three Finals sides in that late-season charge too, including eventual Premiers, Brisbane.
Highs
The Eels wrapped up their year with a 66-10 demolition of the Knights, as they set themselves up nicely for a strong 2026 campaign.
There were notable victories over the Broncos, the Roosters and the Warriors as well in their strong end to the year, while new recruits Isaiah Iongi and Josh Addo-Carr had outstanding seasons. So much so, the Foxx earned a call-up for the Kangaroos tour to England at the end of the year.
Lows
The Eels started the year with four straight losses, and a Finals spot never even looked a remote possibility. They also had 50+ points put on them twice in the opening six weeks.
The loss of star halfback Mitchell Moses for much of the year didn’t help either, and his return sparked an upturn in results.
Meanwhile, his usual halves partner Dylan Brown agitated for a move away during the year which affected his form. He was frozen out for much of the second half of the season, and will be heading to the Knights for 2026.
2025 RLB Player of the Year – Isaiah Iongi
It’s a close call between Mitch Moses and Iongi for this award, but I’m just about going with the young fullback who made 21 appearances over the course of the year – eight more than Moses. Eight tries, 12 try assists and 172 running metres per game on average make him a worthy winner.
Reasons to be positive in 2026
It might sound daft, but if the season had been another four weeks longer, the Eels could well have made the top eight. While some sides stuttered their way towards the finish line, Parra really hit their stride, and they’ll go into 2026 full of confidence.
This year was always going to be a transitional year under a rookie coach, but I’m confident they’ll kick on next season.
My 2025 prediction – 11th
Final 2025 position – 11th
Absolutrly delighted with this prediction as the Eels did exactly what I thought they would. A Finals push always looked a bit of a stretch, but their roster was too strong for the wooden spoon as well. Ultimately, it was no surprise to see them finish where they did, and I’m expecting an improvement in 2026.
